Lock Him Up

I've never liked Bob Novak. I've run across him a few times (so to speak) over the years and have had a hard time understanding how he ever acquired a reputation as a 'nice guy'--other than the fact that we cheer for the same basketball team. So this story comes as no surprise: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0708/11985.html

If true--and there appears to be at least one solid witness to it, this is a jailable offense. I don't even own a car; I'm a hardcore pedestrian in DC, one of the least safe cities in the country for pedestrians, and I have to constantly dodge cars speeding through red lights or making illegal turns. My chances of getting killed just commuting on city streets are greater than if I were a professional skydiver. I have no doubt that Novak will get off with 'community service' or something if--as now seems likely--this incident of criminal negligence comes to trial. But the man could be Walter Cronkite Himself and I'd still say: give him some hard time. Cars are weapons, too--even in a town that has a hard time dealing legally with either.

How could he not know he hit someone? (#104869)
by BlaiseP

I'm an avid bicyclist, and I was once run off the road by a PACE bus. The driver stopped to make sure I was okay, and he was pretty shaken up. PACE contacted me later, to make sure I wasn't going to sue them or the driver. I didn't, though I probably had an airtight case. They did pay for the repairs to my bike, and a replacement helmet.

Never attempt to re-use a bike helmet which has been through a crash, guys. It's basically a styrofoam cup on your noggin. Good for exactly one bash.

Novak has been involved in so many rhetorical drive-by shootings, it's poetic justice to see that old reptile cornered and ticketed for it in real life.

who rolled onto his windshield and he didn't know it?

He does? (#104855)

He has a reputation as "nice"?

I always figured the only reason producers booked the guy was to make conservatives look like a******s.

Hilarious that he drives a Corvette though.

More importantly, what's he doing driving a black corvette? (#104847)

What, just because you're a decent writer means you get to *live* a cliche?

But seriously, folks, if he has "a reputation" for being an aggressive jerk in DC, he must be one of the most dangerous men on any road anywhere.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes. -JH
