Funny thing happened on the way to the Forvm, MA has resigned and by happenchance I have the proxy of the next in line, and since Harley is merely a character I invented…
As much as I would like to sit and wait to see what will break first, the wooden spoon or the highchair, I feel an obligation to the community at large to not let that happen.
So I'm going to go all benevolent dictator on your collective backsides. What has transpired over the last 36 hours is simply not good precedent, and will, long term, do more harm than good to the community. A moderator resigning or a call for elections over any single incident is shortsighted, disproportionate, petty, and destabilizing. It also means that only a total tool or someone who can't connect the dots would be stupid enough to accept this oh so glamorous and high paying job going forward.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the community exercising its voice and ultimate power, but there's a reason there are no functioning pure democracies anywhere in the world (Please don't waste bandwidth and mention Switzerland, it aint one either). You all will get your say, and you all will decide the future and governance of the community, however it isn't going to happen in a pitchfork flurry. At the end of a short period, after I have fully sucked and ruined, I will also resign or get stabbed on the steps or be metaphorically hung from a lamppost.
I decree the following:
I do not accept M. Aurelius' resignation. He is free to do what he pleases, but I reject both the circumstance and necessity.
Neither Luis nor Ken are allowed to walk over this. If I have to, I will use the VRWC force and go Obi Wan on them both.
They have no use for these druids, and they have no need to be leaving
They may however, take a brief break if they so desire.
The current elections as called are cancelled.
There will be elections as originally contemplated, which IIRC was going to be 60 days after the site was up and functioning. So elections will be held the week of December 11th and conclude on December 16.
Prior to any elections for specific officeholders, the community must first debate and decide several things. Continue current structure & rules, makes changes, etc. I will not guide this, and may not even participate – others need to step up and get the ball rolling. You have a month to get everything in order, and there will need to be "pre-elections" to decide all these issues.
Current naval gazing and arguing over this brouhaha should cease. It bores Caesar, and when Caesar is bored, he starts to look for someone to take it out on. If one needs to vent, please, that's what dictators are for; let your wrath descend upon me.
Quality writing is needed, please step up and offer insight on the future or a change of subject.
Until the duly elected backup to M.A. returns, I appoint HankP to pitch hit as the third moderator.
That is all.
And don't make me turn this fake wood festooned station wagon around!
