GBCW
Hey, I'll be around occasionally to check up on my bets, but the reality:truthiness ratio has just gotten way too low for it to be interesting to participate. Might be back after the election. Gonna tend my (neglected) garden.

It's impossible to debate if people simply hold beliefs that have no grounding in reality.

)Things definitely get sillier around election time. Just remind yourself that it's human nature.

)Two of the most partisan commentators on one side see "truthiness" issues only on the other.
Shocked me is.

| parent ). . .when this diary was posted. PM had made his viewpoint well known in prior comments and diaries (though this particular manifestation of it was unexpected), up to and occasionally beyond the extent permissible under the posting rules.

| parent )That's PM. Mac included me and I assure you that my comment was not intended to single out any one side. I'm sure you remember as well that discussions tend to get very heated around election time on both sides and that was the only point I was trying to make. Mac assumed bad faith on my part and made a petty spleenish comment. No big deal he's been doing a lot of that lately and yes I'm sure it will get worse as the election approaches.

| parent )It wasn't unreasonable for Mac to assume that you were endorsing PM's specific reasoning in addition to his general conclusion--and the implicit insult that you posted in response to his comment certainly didn't help, either. We're all free to clarify our meanings, though--and you have done so. GBCW-type diaries and/or comments have an unpleasant tendency to lead to flame wars: it might be best if everyone just walked away from this one.

| parent )Yet, since I've noticed no particular change in the "truthiness ratio" from either side, I guess you're literally correct, it is a reflection on me.
However, if the truthiness ratio is static, but some other ratio, say the comments of one side to another, were to change, then only the perception of a disturbance in overall "truthiness" would exist.
Again, I find myself shocked. I might get the vapors soon.

)But hey, it's worth a second shot. The fact is, if I read you correctly (and am not making some giant mountain out of a misunderstood mole-hill), and you are either threatening to quit the site or just stop participating because there is something about the site you dislike, then the correct response of your fellow-members--no matter what their political beliefs--should be to wave farewell. After all, you offer absolutely no clue as to what about this place bothers you or what could be done to improve it.
We're all tempted to act like prima-donnas here sometimes (I've done it so I know), but if you have a criticism to make, make it. If you definitely want to stop coming here, write a brief dignified note saying why and then say goodbye to your friends here. Or just disappear. But this 'I'm leaving, but I might come back if you all beg me to' routine is gag-worthy.
Presumably there aren't any mentally ill mods here to ban me for saying that this time round--but if there are, then I guess I'll be joining you in the wilderness. Staying away for a year is no big deal though, surprisingly easy. So hasta la vista, baby!

)I thought that guy already jumped from the GWU roof or something, which Hank said is why we need an election. I remember you posting something about it with a lot of detail (it stuck in my mind because you referred to "bum-sniffing dogs"). What did I miss?

really hope + trust to see you again PM.
... sometimes when I see a couple of poor diaries I get pissed too. not to excuse low standards, but OTOH it's good to have a site that can vet these things and I think there has been successful vetting lately. anyway, that's how i partially deal with that emotion.
