Macallan has given us an election time, so we have a deadline.
He has, however, stepped aside to let theForvm commentariat choose what course we take to get there:
The current elections as called are cancelled.
There will be elections as originally contemplated, which IIRC was going to be 60 days after the site was up and functioning. So elections will be held the week of December 11th and conclude on December 16.
Prior to any elections for specific officeholders, the community must first debate and decide several things. Continue current structure & rules, makes changes, etc. I will not guide this, and may not even participate – others need to step up and get the ball rolling. You have a month to get everything in order, and there will need to be "pre-elections" to decide all these issues.
I feel the first thing(s) that must be decided on is/are, what specific issues must be voted upon before the moderator elections occur. I consider this a diary to suggest the items that we would like to hash out before Dec 11th.
This should be followed by a voting diary or diaries to vote on the specific issues that we want to deal with, including a voting timeline, and a timeline diary to agree on the timing and voting framework/system.
To get the ball rolling, I will suggest the items IMHO that should be decided upon before Dec 11th (though not necessarily in this order):
Posting rules -
Profantity, civility, personal attacks vs attacking the comment, etc.
What will the rule structure be?
Voting procedures & nomination procedure
Troika composition -
To remain a troika? Four or more members? Ideological split? Term lengths? Staggered terms?
Decision timelines & deadlines
