Important Reminder

HankP's picture

With the Christmas season almost upon us, I'd like to remind everyone to use the Amazon link on the right hand column to order your Christmas gifts - at least the big, expensive ones.

Also, for your amusement:

Hello,

I am the webmaster for http://www.xxxxxxx.com

Sometime in the past we hired an SEO company to build links to our
website. At the time, we didn't know what kinds of links they were
building, and we were assured they would help our rankings. We are now
in a situation where these links are causing an algorithmic or manual
penalty on our domain.

We have identified which links we believe could be causing this, and
your domain was a part of the results.

I would greatly appreciate it if you removed all of the links to
http://www.xxxxxxx.com from your domain. Here is an example of
the links we have on your website:

Please let me know when you have removed our links from your domain.

We are very sorry if spam was placed on your domain on our behalf. Had
we known that our SEO company was potentially harming your domain and
ours, we would not have hired them!

Thank you,

The www.xxxxxx.com Team

Dear xxxxxxx

Well, since you paid people to place those links there it's only fair if you pay me to remove them. $100 per link, payable in advance.

Hank P

FYI this is far from the only request like this that I've received.

A little note to keep this place alive wouldn't hurt anyone.

the flipkart link, amazon.in has just been launched, and it is pretty good.  Shame about the reviews.

What reviews?

(#311275)

And why would we want to help Amazon become even bigger?

This was clear enough to Larkin, whose patriotism rested on the notion that England was the worst place on earth with the possible exception of everywhere else.

There aren't any reviews.

I should have written "lack of (real) reviews".  Most reviews on our shopping sites are fakes.  Its a little industry - fake review writing, I know a few of the writers.

amazon.com is a great site for reviews - as is tripadvisor.com

A lot of reviews on amazon.com are fake.

I've had to turn down a couple of requests from friends in publishing to write glowing reviews of books they were listing. Internet Rule #1: everything on the internet is a lie until proven otherwise. Internet Rule #34: if it exists, there's porn of it. No exceptions.

Some reviews are fake, but you can catch them out by

reviewer history.  Which is highly interesting in itself.  There is a an amazon.com review analysis PhD out there waiting to be done.

Jordan, can you do me a favor?

I'm tired of being right, even if probably right, every time I read your comments. Can you change your sig? It's been a while already...

Thanks.

What? Who gets *tired* of being right?

Very well. Switching to something for the brave new world of 2014.

Too funny -- very reasonable response.
