(#284114)Looks like I dodged the bullet this time around.
The universe may well have been created without a point--that doesn't imply that we can't give it one.
No thanks to me
(#284115)Last time I was a mod, I had two conservatives with me (Darth and Bird Dog).

Looks Like A Good Panel
(#284117)Hopefully, no one will be in the mood to overly test your patience as the election looms.
The universe may well have been created without a point--that doesn't imply that we can't give it one.
You Know I Thought About Throwing this Election in A Tizzy....
(#284118)..but thought, Nah, let it be....Let it Be!
However, had I taken a vote of mine for Marcus A, given it to Mickey, taken another vote of mine from Nooys and shifted it to your column, that would have created a tie between you and MA.
I may be a Revolutionary, but chaos for the sake of Chaos...is really not the way I'm bent, though this would have gone a good little ways to substantiate the essential validity of Existential Nihilism...
Best Wishes, Traveller
PS Crap! I could edit my error-filled ways away....I myself could NOT have changed the election, but my choice thinking I might have, also has a certain reverb do-wop hum about it.
Let It Be!
Congratulations to Both You Respective Gentlemen!..nt

Voter fraud alert?
(#284031)How come the number of "eligibles" keeps creeping up? It started at 406 when polling opened, and now stands at 410? Yet all I see posting here are the
same old gangstalwart regulars: who are these "new" folks? And 28 voters out of a base of 400+? What are we, the Old Sarum of the blogosphere?
Paranoia
(#284042)the number of eligible voters is the number of registered users, and we get several new ones every week with names like Y65Gghyt that are just spambots. Blocking these new users is probably the most time consuming part of running the site.
As far as the number of actual voters, not sure why the number is so low. I see more lurkers than that listed in the logs, but they may not realize that they can vote.
I blame it all on the Internet
Spambots?
(#284052)Aren 't they , like corporations in Mitt Romney's universe, "persons" ? Or At least registered entities entitled to a moderator vote? After all, they DO provide content: more, in most cases, than most of the " human" participants....
PS: this is snark.
Ah, but they're not shareholders or managers
(#284056)so, not human.
I blame it all on the Internet
Gents, food for thought here
(#283852)I'll be out of the loop starting next week until the middle of August with vacation and a move. Sorry, I didn't even know I was on the ballot until last night.

Nice try...
(#283892)...but I need you to win and nyoos as well, so I consider you absolutely qualified regardless.
I am not a pessimist. I am an incompetent optimist.
There's three mods
(#283855)Being out of the loop for several weeks doesn't disqualify someone IMO.
It's nice if at least one mod is around most days, but this is mostly a self-policing community.
I think my mod group handed out zero suspensions and maybe 5-10 warnings over a 6 month period. Maybe we were too light, but the site didn't fall apart.
On the non-nanny side, it's nice when a mod is around to help delete spam, promote timely and good stuff to the F-P, and make open threads.
I took a week off for travel and two or more when finishing up my dissertation. I don't think anyone noticed.
Dude, there's no comparison
(#283933)You guys had the slowest six months I can remember. OTOH, the next six months has a preznit election immediately followed by the end of the world. THE END OF THE WORLD!!!!!!! You wanna police that sh*t up?
In the medical community, death is known as Chuck Norris Syndrome.
On that note
(#283949)As this presidential campaign heats up, I think it would be good if we all took a moment to pause, breathe deeply, and remind ourselves that those with whom we disagree are not only wrong, but fantastically stupid and deeply, deeply evil.
Whiner
(#283936)this place doesn't run itself, you know.
I blame it all on the Internet
I had a bit of a scorched earth policy
(#283901)We banned Desidiosus during the midterms. And then of course BlaiseP had the brush up there...
I think I could have some fun with the banhammer in a Presidental election year. ;-)

You're Tempting Fate
(#283993)Brooks was unblocked years ago--the only thing stopping an infinite barrage of hypotheticals--a day's worth which would deforest most of Africa if some lunatic decided to print them--is the putative mercy of a Merciful Deity.

(#284063)I was like head moderator over there or something.
He wasn't too bad, but I had to warn him a time or two.

Desiduosus, BlaiseP,
(#283992)...those were the days.
.Divine Spinoza, forgive me. I have become a fool.
True
(#283856)If things get too chippy getting close to the election, the "any one moderator can suspend immediately with the decision being reversible by any other moderator" rule could be adopted again for the remaining time going up to the election, which would make it clear that no one was going to get away with abusing institutional inertia. Plus, we could adopt a rule making it clear that directing thirty bullet point, ten thousand word hypotheticals at fellow Forvmites is punishable by caning and repeated tasering. :-P

Come on!
(#283854)In Europe we're out of the loop pretty much from June till September.
You'll be fine, just fine...
(#283893)Nothing better than a well-rested mod for the peak election season September through November.
Even better one with no American party affiliation. You are just the man for the job, I say! Just the man.

By the way, MA
(#284028)I installed comment closer, all diaries over 3 months old are now automatically closed to comments.

Nice...
(#284058)That should help.
